If you plan to travel to Ghana, visiting Cape Coast is an absolute must. It is an ideal destination for anyone that desires to deepen their understanding of Ghana’s rich history while indulging in the most beautiful landscapes and forestry. This city has several attractions to make for an action packed day trip or an even better overnight stay outside of Accra.

Look closely at Ghana’s coastline, and you’ll find dozens of ancient castles and forts. Marking the start of a perilous voyage, these fortresses were the last stop on the continent for many enslaved Africans before being transported across the Atlantic never to return. One of the most known slave castles in Ghana is the Cape Coast Castle. Before touring the castle, there is an excellent array of displays including pictures, diagrams, and timelines to help contextualize what is to be experienced during the tour. Next, you will walk the Castle’s time-worn corridors and dungeons to relive what was once the setting of the most atrocious periods in history. The learning does not have to end at the Cape Coast Castle, we’d also recommend visiting the nearby Elmina Castle as well..

Another place that you must visit while in Cape Coast is the Kakum National Park. Environment lovers, tree huggers and anyone that wants to be in touch with mother nature will find immense pleasure in the dense greenery of this site. Among the sounds of chirping birds and trees blowing in the wind is the breathtaking canopy walkway which hangs 100 feet above the forest floor for a striking view of the rainforest. After a short hike, visitors are allowed to trek through several suspended walkways and have photographs taken for purchase.

While Cape Coast is known for the attractions mentioned above, it also has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. With shimmering golden sand, warm gentle waves, and tree lined shores, spending time at any Cape Coast beach will add a special touch to your visit. There are many beach resorts, like the Oasis Beach Resort, moments away from the Cape Coast castle that offers delicious local food and beverages to make for the perfect beach day. Be sure to pack your Chéri House Sandra Monokini in “Cape Coast” which was inspired by the rich golden hues of this city for your trip!.
