Chéri House Redefines Luxury Swimwear With a Carnival Flare
Black-owned boutique line launches with signature Sandra Monokini
NEW YORK (September 23, 2020) – Inspired by a love of travel, skillfully constructed, and infused with the spirit of Caribbean Carnival comes Chéri House, the luxurious new swimwear line.
Launching with the signature Sandra Monokini, a limited collection carefully crafted and inspired by breathtaking beach destinations, Chéri House introduced itself as a new yet serious competitor in the swimwear market. The Chéri House Launch Exhibit: Escape 2020 took you on a much needed vacation to Chéri House Destinations via a transformed loft in Chelsea, New York decorated with destination inspired installations. Each installation displayed 5 different Sandra Monokinis:
- Cape Coast, Ghana: shimmering bronze representing the golden sand and warm hues of this city
- Bahia, Brazil: yellow, orange and white tie-dye print representing the warm, vibrant, rhythmic culture and people found in the state of Bahia
- Santorini, Greece: shimmering white representing the dazzling white facades that sparkle in the rays of the sun
- Tahiti, French Polynesia: green and pink print over the white base representing the variety of unique natural landscapes available at this destination.
- Saint Barts: lustrous and vibrant pink fabric representing the glamorous and elite island with a Caribbean flare
After not being able to travel for six months, guests described the Chéri House launch as a refreshing way to experience travel destinations; a secret oasis of beautiful designs and people. An experience that was much needed during an unrestful time.
“It was such a great feeling to finally be able to introduce and celebrate the launch of my business with people who support me and admire my vision” says Moneifa Murray. “I am thankful to have been able to build my brand to the point where I am able to show my designs as well as share the story of how Chéri House came to be despite the current circumstances of 2020.”
Founded by Moneifa Murray, this Black-owned boutique brand is entirely self-funded thanks to dedicated savings practices and strict budgeting. Murray, a full-time high performing finance professional by day, is a fashion entrepreneur by night, designing and engineering each look in the Chéri House collection herself. No easy feat, considering much of the development and manufacturing of her premiere collection occurred during the 2020 pandemic. Moneifa’s passion for creating and designing came from her ‘Trini’ heritage (from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago) and years of experience modeling and eventually building extravagant costumes for Carnival. With just her mother’s sewing machine, she began to design breathtaking monokinis, whose shapes are inspired by those Carnival pieces and colors inspired by her travels to exotic locales like Brazil and Ghana.
“I planned to launch Chéri House this past spring and summer, but the world had other plans,” says founder, Moneifa Murray. “Rather than pack my sewing machine up and give up on my dream, I did what the strong, resilient women in my life taught me. I became nimble in my operations to creatively navigate challenges. I needed to share my designs with the world, and so I found a way.”
The launch of Chéri House has opened a new experience to travel by making you see and feel the beauty of a destination through its design. From the high cut leg to give a flattering silhouette, to the gold accents that add Carnival-inspired flare, Chéri House evokes the feeling of sun, sand, and sizzle in each luxury piece.
